Knock Upon the Octopus Door

A 5 room wine ‘n’ dungeon I made as a demo for an ascii dungeon crawler my friend Nick and I are working on. The crawler itself is mostly an exercise to see if we enjoy making games together, but it’s also a great excuse for me to make a bunch of fun dungeons.

This one is themed around Büt the Unquenchable, a demon that offers a beguiling wine to all who offer their cup. In this case, an expired “church” filled with thirsty skeletons.

d4 Hooks

  1. A wine collector has a thirst for a devilishly rare vintage buried in his grandfather’s tomb.
  2. An aspiring vintner will pay handsomely for an appraisal of the old vineyard on the hill.
  3. A friend of yours never made it back from the tavern. Patrons swear he never left.
  4. While enjoying the baron’s party you spy a hooded figure sneaking down into the cellar.

d4 Possible Entry Points

  1. Below a forgotten speakeasy down a wine-smelling alley.
  2. Through a trapdoor hidden beneath a case of an unpopular libation.
  3. Through a secret passage in the baron’s wine cellar.
  4. Through an impossible door in a barrel of wine.
